I've been wondering for a while if, how, and when I'd >broach the subject of our unusual marriage with my kids. >Turns out we were teaching this stuff all along, without >even saying a word.

I don't think it is a bad thing to talk to our adolescent children about what we have learned to keep a marriage healthy and vibrant. In fact, I think this would be a great service to them.

I am virtually certain, however, that discussing our sexually intimate lives with our children is absolutely out of the question. It sounds to me like Sara's daughter may have accepted the model of marriage presented her by her mother and step father, the values I mean. We can model values for our children, values like respect for each other, and those values will be interpreted and used in the way they find most useful for them. They live in a different time, different technology, so it only makes sense that they will DO different things.

Sara says she was teaching healthy relationship dynamics all along and I have no doubt both her and her husband have been....nothing healthier than a husband leading the family with love, respect for all family members and a gentle protection for all. Apart from all the the very private things we do (when our kids are adults, they'll figure out for themselves what they want to do), what else is there in Taken In Hand?
